Joey Kangaroo
Joey Kangaroo
A close up portrait of a joey kangaroo feeding on the grass at Coombabah Lakelands Conservation Area.
This joey kangaroo is an Eastern Grey Kangaroo (Macropus giganteus) and is a marsupial from the family Macropodidae. As an adult, the Eastern Grey Kangaroo weighs around 66 kg (weight 145 lb.) and stands approximately 2 m (6.6 ft.) tall.
On my encounter with this little joey, it was close to its mother’s side and was somewhat shy as I ventured closer, and would occasionally hide its head in its mother’s pouch.
The Joey was taken at Coombabah Lakelands Conservation Area on Koala track, between Goshawk track and Melaleuca track in the afternoon.
There was a mob of kangaroos surrounding the joey and its mother. You are always guaranteed to see a kangaroo at Coombabah Wetlands and it’s a great location for tourists staying on the Gold Coast to see kangaroos in their natural environment and so plentiful in the wild.
