Taraxacum are flowering plants in the Asteraceae family and commonly known as dandelions.
After a dandelion is finished flowering, the flower head dries out for a day or two. The dried petals and stamens drop off, the bracts reflex which means they curve backwards, and then parachute ball opens into a full sphere. When this development is complete, the mature seeds are attached to white, fluffy parachutes that easily detach from the seedhead and glide by wind, dispersing.
